It is with no pleasure that I write this article.
According to Game Informer, Sony has confirmed that it will not be attending E3 2019. As most of you know E3 is the annual expo in which all the large video game publishers from across the globe come to showcase their current and upcoming projects. Most notably PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo are the main attractions to this expo as they are also the main hardware manufactures that these games are played on. With the PlayStation turning 5 years old today and selling as much today as it was close to launch this comes at a complete surprise.
I, along with every other PlayStation gamer was expecting big things from next years E3 conference. Like updates to the most anticipated game The Last of Us II and Death Stranding. It seems that won’t happen, at least not at E3. For years its been rumored that E3 was having a hard time filling its venue and making the capital needed to maintain the show. With Sony pulling out of the conference one would have to wonder how this will affect the annual showing as a whole, as Sony was a major draw to gamers.
According to the company and what they told Game Informer
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company told Game Informer in a statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
It appears that Sony will be maybe looking at reviving the PSX conference or holding smaller conferences around the globe to fully speak to their entire audience. The official announcement came from PlayStation senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark.
“We are looking at events as a whole and how we can speak more to our fans and continue to wow them. The timing of PSX and E3 didn’t allow for that,” Clark replied. “But lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly. Some of our biggest games will have key milestones next year so we will work hard to blow those up.”
We along with likely many of you are in awe as of this late news. We don’t know what to expect but we are going to trust Sony PlayStation to deliver on all fronts. They’ve not let us down to date so I don’t expect anything but greatness coming from them with whatever type of event they decide to do. Stick with Planet PlayStation as we will bring you the updates as soon as we have them regarding their plans.
Sound off in the comments below on what your thoughts are about them not doing E3 and what you thing their plans are going to entail. We would love to know what you’re thinking.Follow Us On Social Media
